IKEA Multi-Function
Logistic Unit

Barnwell Cambridge Pty Ltd was engaged to complete the design and installation of the Electrical and associated services within Australia’s first Multi-Function Logistic Unit (MFLU) for the IKEA Corporation.

This 400-metre-long x 200-metre-wide manual and automated “pick and pack” warehouse / office facility located in Marsden Park, NSW is the equivalent size of 64 Olympic size swimming pools. This facility is by far the largest real estate holding that the IKEA Corporation has within the region. 

Within the 70,000 sqm. of Warehouse and office space with some 82 delivery / receiving docks, Barnwell Cambridge were therefore responsible for the design, supply and installation, coordination and commissioning of electrical services including High Voltage, lighting systems, general power including electrical plant and cabling, lightning protection, specialised earthing, MATV, A.V, lighting control, customised switchboards and cable support brackets, in ground Telco and electrical conduits and reticulation, Facility Controls and Monitoring Cabling, structured communications cabling and associated Wi-Fi Network.

Special mention should also be given to the 30,000spm. of roof top mounted solar panels and “Green Cranes” that we needed to re-integrate back into the electrical distribution network within the facility. Additionally, the installation of a specific under slab earthing system that was installed to protect the sensitive robotics within the warehouse from the surrounding high voltage transmission towers and lines that ran parallel to the facility.
